Why Texas Pecans Are not Your Ordinary Kind of Nut

Have you ever wondered why Texas pecans are so in demand and revered? After all, a nut is a nut is a nut, isn’t it? Well, not for those who have tried the goodness of these locally-grown pecans. Texas pecans are a source of huge pride for the state, not only because it is renowned throughout the whole country, but also because it is very much in demand even abroad.

The reason for this is that there is much care that goes into the process of Texas pecans. They grow on trees, yes, but that doesn’t mean it makes for an easy process. After all, out of all the Texas pecans planted at one time, only half of those will actually be able to take root and grow to a full-fledged pecan tree.

By this virtue alone, this already makes the Texas pecans very precious. The growers know this all too well, and that is why they give it much care and attention to ensure that those trees that do manage to take root will have that opportunity to flourish. In fact, it takes a while for the Texas pecan seeds to actually root out, that’s why growers would rather grow them in containers first, and then only transfer it to soil eventually.

What also makes them so precious is that they don’t grow pecans until they are about six years old. But even then, it doesn’t mean that the produced pecans will already be good enough for packing and distribution, even locally. This is because the pecans themselves will be still be bitter. The first few batches of produce will also be sparse and far between. The minimum amount of years before the tree can produce Texas pecans as we know them to be will be at least ten years. That alone should be proof of just how much time, money, and effort should be invested in the growing and production of Texas pecans.

Once the tree has hit the 10-year mark, however, you can already expect the sweet pecan taste that Texas pecans are famous for the world over. From there, you can have your fill of enjoying it in whatever manner you may desire, from Roasted Pecans added to your salad or Mexican food, or even on your pastries such as cupcakes and muffins.

Knowing how tedious the process can be for the production of Texas pecans help provide a higher level of appreciation for the tree and for its growers. This is why the local government of Texas makes it a point to help out whatever way they can in supporting the maintenance of this industry. After all, there is no question that these types of nuts do bring endless pride and economic relief to the state.

You should be free to enjoy it, too, for as long as you are sure that you don’t have any allergy to nuts of any kinds. If you do, then it’s best to not even try tasting one; it’s for your own good, too.  Here is a good site to get pecans
